Longview is a city of parks and trails. Longview is located in East Texas along Interstate 20, at the convergence of U.S 80 at State Road 259 north of the Sabine River. Residents of Summerbrook Apartments in Longview have access to many parks and trails that offer sports courts, picnic facilities, bike riding, and hiking. All parks are open from 6:00 am until 11:00 pm each day.
Lear Park Sports Complex
The 182-acre Lear Park offers a variety of activities for everyone. This park, located in the southwest area of the city, has fields for softball, baseball, and soccer. It offers a walking trail and a fishing pier by a small lake. The splash pad is a highlight of the park during the summer. Disc golf is played on an 18-hole tournament-level course in this park. The park also has five pavilions, picnic areas with barbecue pits and grills, restrooms, and an accessible walking trail.
The separate KidsView Playground section of the park features a playground with large, interconnected play structures. A special play area for toddlers was recently added to the park.
Guthrie Park
This popular 28.6-acre park features an 18-hole disc golf course along with a 1.2-mile portion of the 10-mile Consecutive Trail System. Guthrie Park has pickleball courts, along with picnic facilities. It is located in a central area near Rotary Park.
The Consecutive 10-mile Trail System leads through several parks along a marked path. The trail is for bikes and walkers. Motorized vehicles are not allowed. The Paul G. Boorman Trail is a three-mile section that runs from Guthrie Park along Grace Creek and Lois Jackson Park. The eight-acre Lois Jackson Park also has picnic facilities and a play area.
Broughton Park and Recreation Center
Broughton Park is also known for its kid-friendly amenities. This 19.3-acre park in the southeast section of the city has a splash pad, playground, and multi-use courts. It also features a softball field, picnic tables, barbecue pits with grills, and reservable pavilions. There is also a quarter-mile hike and bike trail.
Flewellen Park
This is a small 3.1-acre park that is also part of the trail system. Flewellen Park has picnic tables and a pavilion. It is a pleasant stopover for people walking or riding a bike on the trail. It is located north of Guthrie Park.
Cargill Long Park and Trail
This trail is recognized as a Certified National Recreational Trail. The Cargill Long Trail follows the old rail bed along a wooded area between suburban parks. The park and trail combination has a pavilion, picnic tables, restrooms, and exercise stations along the pathway between Hughey Drive and Duke Blvd. This is an urban park nature trail that connects to other parks.
Julianna, McWhorter, and Ward Parks and Trail System
The trail system links these three parks. Julianna Park has 15.8 acres, while Ward Park has only 6.1 acres in the northwest part of the city. The trail was extended across Tolar Road from Ward Park to McWhorter Park. The trail covers three-quarters of a mile in Julianna Park.
Ward Park has a picnic area with barbecue grills, a backstop for baseball practice, and a play area.
McWhorter Park has 41.4 acres that include the picnic facilities and baseball diamond. The park also has multi-use court areas.
Longview Arboretum and Nature Center Trail
This is a half-mile trail through the Longview Arboretum, which features local trees, shrubs, and flowers with seasonal colors. The trail through this park offers event spaces and peaceful picnic areas. This botanical sanctuary in the southwest part of the city is the place for outdoor walks in the 26-acre arboretum. Special outdoor musical events are held during the year.
The Green
This nine-acre park was part of the Keep Longview Beautiful project. The Green is located at the entry to Highway 31. It features picnic areas, a walking trail, a pond, and special "Art from the Heart" installations. The Green is located near the Arboretum and the Parks Department.
Aquatics
The Department of Parks in Longview offers two public swimming pools. Ingram Park has an outdoor swimming pool, along with a nine-hole disc golf course and tennis courts. The pool has a water slide and a special area for children. Lessons are offered during the summer. The park is located northeast of downtown.
The Paula Martin Jones Recreation Center has an indoor pool. Swimming lessons are offered along with swimming team practice all year. The center is located south of downtown.
A new swimming pool is scheduled to open in 2026 at Stamper Park. This 15.8-acre park features baseball and softball fields, a children's play area, picnic facilities, and pavilions. The park is located by Womack Field.
Summer Brook Apartments

Boorman Trail for residents who want to connect to the parks.
